Three Ones
“Don’t forget me!” says the little frog.
I survived my colonoscopy and celebrated with a springtime unicycle ride the day after. Apparently this counted as “overexertion” because it left me sleeping for pretty much two days straight. Thankfully i’m only taking two classes this term; otherwise i’d be, i don’t know, dead or crazy. But picture-happy Christian accompanied me to the hospital and back, and then Christian, Claudia, Boris, and their friend Mike and I all went to the park.
hurray! after a long journey through south america, exhausted eugene and lindsay visit me in new york!
we eat at a yummy gluten free restaurant in greenwich village. The dessert makes me feel like i’m 8 years old. rainbow sprinkles!
mmmmmm…….
eug took some time to see the woman from france, ground zero, the stars in the ceiling of grand central, etc.
i write… in a wonderful little tea shop near nyu
eug enjoys carrot cake.
we also enjoyed the museum of sex,
lots of good meals at my cozy apartment, banana splits, apple crisp, and strawberry whip cream crepes being among my favorites….,

study time,
a doctor seuss movie in one of new york’s gigantic movie theaters,
greenwich village coffee shops and my friend mr. alex,
brooklyn and that cute boy christian,

subway music,
a unicycle/walk/bike ride (a parade of goofballs laughing and chasing each other down the street)
eug’s bike and unicycle doctoring (much needed!)
Tonight i’ve discovered a whole new study technique:

A date with myself: suddenly time is inconsequential; i take my time, savor the chapters I like, dwell on certain sentences, do not think of the exorbitant, unbearable mass of readings yet to be read, the mass of words yet to be written, the person i shouldn’t be crushed out on, the conferences i have yet to speak at. This is what studying should always be like: savoring the life of the text, in love with the imagination, claiming space.
“Stunning,” I named this especially vibrant rose in Claudia’s Valentine’s day bouquet. Good job Boris, I said.
The definition of vibrant, by the way, is “pulsating with life, vigor, or activity,” “responsive,” “sensitive.”
This is what it means to be me.

Second term of graduate school…. I’ve had a hard time adjusting back to study mode. I’ve made a few friends in NYC that make life much more exciting, but also distracting. Besides them, I’ve had wonderful Phoenix visiting, and Lovely Stina, and i’m living with wonderful Claudia. Here are some pictures.
